As the rainfall in Southwest Florida continues to increase we are seeing a much greater demand for landscape drainage systems. If you are experiencing standing water or water that is coming up and rising at the walls and foundation of the house you may need to have a drainage assessment done.
In Venice and all over Sarasota County we find that the need for some type of drainage solution is becoming a mandatory need.
When we are called out to look at drainage issues you will most often hear us reference “Arial Flooding” and how the absolute mass amount of water that falls from the sky in even a short period of time is astounding.
The need for drainage solutions is not just about convenience, here are a few of the benefits that proper drainage offers:
A French Drain is the method of of proper excavation and installation of a combination of underground drainage pipe and rock, all this to work to transport and distribute water as needed.
A French Drain is meant to both “carry” water and “distribute” water along the way.
If done right French Drains can both carry and distribute water. French Drains are also detailed in their construction and nine out of ten times are improperly installed.
French drains are typically a solution for large scale water remediation efforts on large scale projects with grade change!

Drainage solutions are required to remove water from locations such as backyards to prevent standing water and flooding.
Venice Pavers and Landscape installs more “traditional” drainage systems then any other type of drain.
What do we mean by “traditional” and why does it matter? There are two types of drain pipe – perforated and non-perforated. We install mostly non-perforated and the reason is simple – most drainage installations in Venice are needed to MOVE WATER and we refer to this as traditional drainage solutions.
We can offer either drainage option but in most cases there is no point in trying to collect water or distribute it along the way and why add water to saturated ground when it is already pooling.

In Venice we are designing drainage systems based on individual customer requirements and what is required for that specific yard.
When it comes to sump pumps we do not always recommend them but in some cases they are the only option you may have here in Venice where the elevation change is negative or minimal.
Sadly in older neighborhoods there is what is called negative grade where the backyard is lower in elevation then the front yard. In these cases we cannot use a gravity drainage systems and must use forced water solutions.
In a recent case in South Venice where new construction has changed decades old drainage patterns we replaced an existing pump and added 3 additional to accommodate water coming into the yard. we are now pumping approximately 24,000 gallons of water per hour and even have a pump with battery backup.
*If a sump pump solution is right for you it will require a power source and battery backup is a option.
