Paver Sealer

“Sealing your pavers protects your investment and brings out the color and vibrance”

Now that you have invested in a new paver driveway, walkway, patio or pool deck it is important to consider paver sealing. Pavers are a concrete product and because of that they are porous and need to have a sealant added to protect them from the sun, dripping oil, dirt, mold and more.

If your pavers are not new and in need of sealing you definitely want to  continue reading.

Sealing your pavers will bring out the color and depth!

Paver Sealing Protects Your Investment

What is the purpose of sealing your pavers?

  1. Protect your pavers: Sealing pavers is similar to waxing your new car and adding that buffer between the harmful rays of the sun looking to eat away at the surface and expose the aggregate used to manufacture the pavers. There is always a noticeable difference between pavers that are properly maintained and those that are not.
  2. Adding Brilliance: When you seal your pavers it will bring out the color that is otherwise hidden and muted. If you want to test what your pavers might look like with sealer wet them with water and let them sit for a few minutes. We do not typically recommend “wet look” paver sealer but it is available.
  3. Lock the sand in the joints: Sand is a critical component to quality paver installations and maintenance. Sand is the stabilizer that is required to keep pavers in place and locked in; while keeping weed spores out. Proper sand height is integral to long term preventative maintenance and the sealer will soak in and bond that sand in place.

Our Process

Sealing your pavers requires a process and yes we have one.

  1. Clean and Wash: Depending on the age and the condition of your pavers we may need to use a chemical along with an orbital wash to prepare the surface of the pavers for sealer. This process is to remove algae, mold, mildew, dirt, weeds, etc to allow for proper adhesion and long lasting results.
  2. Check sand levels and touch up as needed: The topic of joint sand has a wide variety of opinions and thoughts. Its important to have just the right amount but not too much. DO NOT top of the sand to the top of the pavers.
  3. Seal Pavers: Lastly we will spray your pavers with two coats of water based polyurethane sealer that is an impregnating sealer and draws down into the pavers. DO NOT use oil based sealers.

We do what we do and the way we do it for specific reasons, if you have questions about our process – please call and discuss.

How often do you re-seal?

This is often the question we are asked when quoting paver sealing. The answer is not so easy or something that can be answered as a one size fits all.

  • The newer your pavers are when you have them sealed the longer the sealer will last. This is because using a penetrating sealer on your new pavers will protect the cream on the surface and prevent it from being baked away in the South Florida sun slowly.
  • If your pavers are new or in good shape you may expect to re-seal your pavers in 3-5 years.
  • If your pavers are older and showing signs of wear you would probably consider re-sealing in 2-3 years to enhance protection on the aging surface and then be on the 3-5 year schedule.

Do your pavers need to be repaired?

Yes we offer paver repairs on installs of any kind. Before you seal your pavers be sure to fix shifting, sinking, cracked, broken or moving pavers.

We repair hundreds of the following paver projects in Venice every year:
